2025 November updates

on 24.11.2025

With our November update, we are introducing the changes to the unified basic tax exemption that will take effect next year and changes to MFA.

Calculation of basic exemption starting from 2026

Basic exemption is the part of income on which income tax is not paid (tax-free income). Starting next year, a unified basic exemption of up to 700 euros per month will apply to everyone (776 euros per month for people who are of pensionable age).

The biggest difference compared to the previous system is that the amount of the basic exemption no longer depends on a person’s income and does not decrease as income increases.

Reminder

  • All applications submitted in the previous year will remain valid. If an employee wishes to increase or decrease the amount, a new application must be submitted to the employer.
  • If last year’s application states that the employee wishes to apply the maximum exemption permitted by law, no new application is required, and the employer may apply the exemption in the amount of 700 euros.
  • The monthly basic tax exemption is up to 700 euros, meaning employees may choose to apply a smaller amount if they wish.
  • The basic exemption is calculated on a monthly basis. This means that any unused or partially used amount in one month cannot be carried forward or added to the exemption in future months.

Basic exemption in SmartAccounts

SmartAccounts is already fully prepared for this change, and the necessary updates have been implemented in the software.

  • We recommend informing your employees to review their basic exemption preferences before the end of the year and submit new applications if needed.
  • Based on these applications, you can update the information in SmartAccounts on employees’ card (Payroll – Employees) accordingly, and the changes will take effect from the January payroll onward.

Disabling MFA

If MFA is enabled in SmartAccounts but, for any reason, the user cannot access their authentication app or is unable to enter the verification code, they can now disable MFA before logging in.

If this happens, simply click “Turn off MFA” on the login screen. The user will then be asked to complete strong authentication (Smart-ID, Mobile-ID, ID-card). If successful, they can log in using their password. After completing these steps, we strongly recommend re-enabling MFA (found under Settings – My user data).

If MFA has not yet been activated on your account, you can read more about why this small extra step is so important.
