Getting started with new company

After you add a new company, some cards appear on the front page on SmartAccounts. These help you get started with the company and guide you through the next steps. The ones that require some action are brightly colored and cards with actions already performed fade into the background.

Add your name

If you haven’t done so already, enter the first and last name of your user. These are used when you create invoices or send emails.

Complete the company

Add additional company contact information like a phone number or a homepage. Upload a logo to display on invoices or add additional bank accounts.

Invite users

Did you know that it’s possible to add an unlimited number of users to the company for free? These users can belong to different user groups that have different permissions.

Enter initial balances

Enter your company’s initial general ledger balances more conveniently using our helpful tool. Choose between 3 options:

  1. your company has been recently established without contribution
  2. your company has been recently established with monetary contribution
  3. your company has a previous accounting history and you are transferring over from another software

Did you establish your company without contribution?

  1. choose the first option
  2. enter the date your company was established
  3. save

 

An automatic general ledger entry about establishing the company without contribution is created. It can be found under ‘General ledger’ – ‘General ledger entries’ – ‘More’ – ‘Initial balances’ in the SmartAccounts menu.

 

Did you establish your company with monetary contribution?

  1. choose the second option
  2. enter the date your company was established
  3. save

An automatic general ledger entry about establishing the company with monetary contribution is created. It can be found under ‘General ledger’ – ‘General ledger entries’ – ‘More’ – ‘Initial balances’ in the SmartAccounts menu.

Does your company have a previous accounting history?

  1. choose the last option
  2. select a date that is one day before you start accounting in SmartAccounts
  3. copy the balances of your assets, liabilities and equity from your previous software
  4. save

 

An automatic general ledger entry with the entered values is created. It can be found under ‘General ledger’ – ‘General ledger entries’ – ‘More’ – ‘Initial balances’ in the SmartAccounts menu.
